Het Ossenlied (The Ox Song) is a 54-day hike across Netherlands, England, Wales, Ireland from Oss to Skellig Michael through Oxford to compose an epic story cycle set to music. Inspired by troubadours and epic poets of ancient times, following in the tradition of the Tain, Edda, Mabinogion and Beowulf and the Canterbury Tales, composer Kate Moore is inspired to write her own story cycle while long distance walking and composing with a lyre and vielle that she carries with her.
There are musical public activities with Kate Moore and guest artists from composer walks to a kinetic workshop to a music marathon and a final work-in-progress presentation of the Ossenlied with Herz Ensemble on Saturday, May 31. The exhibition Desire Lines by Isabelle Vigier is open during the residency.

A Beautiful path : Plein Air composing (Prologue)
The first public presentation takes place during Gaudeamus in Utrecht in September 2023, it is also the official launch of the project. Kate introduces the public to the concept in words and music at the exhibition at Movement Exposed Gallery Space.
The exhibition revolves around two photographic prints representing the points of departure and arrival of the route, in Oss, Nord Brabant, and Skellig Michael, South West Ireland, respectively, next to eight sound boxes. On show are also two representations of the route created by Kate: one shows the points on the straight route from East to West shining as stars against a red firmament, on the second one the path is translated into music on a pythagorean monochord.
